My Promised Land (Spiegel & Grau, 2015)

Journalist Ari Shavit writes for Israel’s oldest and most liberal newspaper. Also a radio commenter, Shavit is a well-known voice in Israeli politics. The first half of this book is one of the best histories you’ll ever read of the years immediately preceding the established of Israel in 1948, and the years that followed. The second half of the book slows down considerably, with Shavit lobbying strongly for a two-state solution as part of the peace process. If you’ll read both this book and The Israeli Solution, you’ll have insight into the full spectrum of political viewpoints on one of the thorniest issues in international politics today.
