“On this Rock” – Try this presentation for free!

When modern-day readers of the Bible read of the day when Jesus said, “On this rock I will build my church,” most have no idea that the rock within sight of the disciples was known as the “Gates of Hades.” No wonder Jesus insisted that “the Gates of Hades will not prevail against us!”

Here’s a virtual journey from Capernaum by the Sea of Galilee all the way to the northern-most tip of Israel. You’ll find the beginnings of the Jordan River at Caesarea Philippi, and see the “Temple of Omrit” on the way. When Jesus and his disciples passed this key intersection, they were looking at one of the first temples built anywhere in the world to honor Caesar as if he were god! Just three miles later, Jesus asked his disciples: “Who do you say I am?” By that time, Simon Peter was ready to set the record straight on which man in the Roman Empire was the Son of God!

When your audience sees the undeniable evidence of the archeological finds associated with this passage, they’ll see more than a new look at an old Bible story. Suddenly, they’ll have a brand-new look at the modern-day church. It is this realization that makes this Bible study so important. Has the church of today fulfilled the task Jesus gave us at Caesarea Philippi?
